Seriously? Really?
People I know have me using these words all the time. It's usually with a dumbfounded look after they tell me how Obama can fix the economy by spending money. I am trying to explain how this is just a way for them to get approval to the safe and hand out money to those that got them elected and will keep in office.
I really don't know how people can see this as a good idea.
Some examples of stupidity:
They say this...
The goal is to get people to spend money at a time when most are cutting back and saving more. It makes sense to be frugal when the economy is in such bad shape, but it hurts the economy when everyone does it.
Now why are we in bad shape? Most in the media, Most in the white house and Most with no real knowledge of the situation will say the "Failed policies and practices of the last 8 years" Well kinda...I put more into the last two years than the entire 8, but whatever. The truth of the matter is we borrowed too much and invested it unwisely. That's it. Now they want to borrow more and invest it again. We've done this now 3 times and it has not worked. I swear everytime these idiots talk I hear clips of Forrest Gump in my head.
Millions of additional low-income workers who don't make enough money to pay income taxes would get checks from the government when they file their 2009 tax returns.
Read it again. That's the definition of welfare. I paid my taxes because I went to work. Someone else gets that money because they did not. As anyone that knows me will tell you, I have a way with words. I know when they are using words to make things sound better. It's all in how you word things. "Global Warming" has now been shifted to "Climate Change" because...well it has been freaking cold and nobody was buying Al Gore's repackaged speeches. "American Recovery and Reinvestment" has been changed to "Stimulus Package" because the majority of Americans don't need to recover. I'm fine. Once the government gets what it wants I won't be, but right now.....I'm fine. The Reinvestment was the problem. The spreading the wealth was the problem. Not popular with the tax payers.
So all the ear marks, BS infrastructure/education/medicine spending and new computers for the federal buildings aside...what are they trying to sell the American people. Tax Breaks....IF!!
Buy a new house. (First time buyers only. The rest of us can get more energy efficient and get up to 30% credited back in April.) Unless you have money to pay up front you have to finance that. $1,500 credit in taxes.....or as I like to call it. 1 to 3 months free...then the mortgage is on you. What if you can't afford that? What if you buy a house for the tax credit and then realize you can't afford that? Do you think the struggling banking system is going to care? NOPE
Buy a new car. The money you pay in sales tax and interest can be deducted. So says the Senate...Not the house. What if you don't need a new car. Spending $10 to save $1 is just spending $9. And why new cars? They already got paid. Can't we buy something else?
Pop out some more kids. -- The Earned Income Tax Credit would be expanded for poor families with three or more children who pay no income taxes. The maximum check they could receive from the government would rise $5,028 to $5,656. YUP. If all this stimulus causes you to reproduce another child.....more free money.
Why can't they just understand that THEY are the problem. Well they call it greed. I call it success, but we do see some greed in the system. That's just the way it goes. Some business people will make bad decisions. This is where a free market society will see those decisions and go to a competitor. The problem with government is that it is a living breathing beast. It will fight to survive just as all other living breathing beasts do. In order to get out of the American Tax Payers way....THEY have to cut jobs and stop spending. Why no tax breaks?
I'll say this so you can all understand it.
Our tax dollars are their salaries.
If we stop paying taxes or pay less in taxes, they have to cut back on what they can spend and what they can make. Hell they may have to cut government jobs!!
I hope this helps. As a new daddy I feel obligated to educate these days. Here I am educating my little girl on Realistic "Alternative Renewable Energy" This is domestic daddy power.
